Belmont CERT,After many months of postponement, Belmont CERT had a Zoom monthly meeting this week.  There was a lot of CERT activity to recap, along with some news regarding our fearless leader.

Discussion highlights:
> Capt Halleran spoke of his role working in the County EOC during the pandemic
> Discussed our late teammate Tim Wong and plans for a new Fire Dept award in his honor.
> Reviewed the ongoing Senior Center lunch delivery effort being handled by CERT team members.  Serving 66 seniors, this is expected to run until the end of June.
> Carlmont High School graduation car parade, comprising over 600 vehicles, was conducted without major incident.  Staging all the participants in the Island Park neighborhood was a good test of our traffic control training.  Once the parade began, traffic on El Camino & Ralston was halted for 50 minutes to allow the parade to pass!
> Sandra Firpo discussed the results of the very first SMC CERT ham radio net conducted on 6/11.  Another one is planned for 7/2 at 1900 hrs.
> Per the State, SMC CERT is among the top 10% of CERT programs in California!!
> Belmont’s CERT trailer is now officially inducted into the San Mateo Consolidated Fire vehicle fleet (vs being part of Belmont) and will receive the same regular maintenance as the other SMC CERT trailers.

At the real news at the meeting…Capt Halleran is retiring at the end of June after 39 years of service!  Be sure to congratulate him if you have the opportunity.  Thankfully he will continue to lead the Belmont CERT team on a volunteer basis.

Photos of presentation material have been uploaded to the CERT Photo Album.
